 In re: Diversity vs. Fusion

Raksha Bandhan is very clearly a Hindu religious festival - culture is just one aspect of it.

One should not expect Muslims to celebrate it or taunt Muslims who do not citing the example of some Muslims who do celebrate it.

Many Islamic schools forbid even wishing Hindus on such festivals to say nothing of participation - so to expect them to partake is to interfere in freedom of religion.

The same applies to other Hindu festivals which will take place in rapid succession soon.

Equally Muslims should also refrain from seeking to participate in events like Dandiya/Garba where non Hindus are expressly barred by organizers.

Where non Hindus are allowed, any Muslim who likes may attend as per his or her own understanding of faith.

In re: MY Hindu community:

Extremists in our Hindu community need to understand that violence against minorities will lead to natural reactions which shall be harmful for our OWN safety, security & livelihoods NOT only in the medium/long run BUT also in the short run.

We need to unite and educationally & economically strengthen our OWN Hindu community with a view to reimagine India as a Hindu version of the UAE where recognition of Hindu preeminence goes hand in hand with the rights of minorities to practice their religions.

I am NOT 'secular' or liberal. Though an atheist, I am a very identity conscious Hindu. However practically we need to keep in mind India’s own demographics as well as the greater relevance of the Islamic world to India's progress before every action or forbearance.
